The Karhunkierros Trail runs from Hautaj\u00e4rvi in Salla, through Oulanka National Park, and continues all the way to Ruka in Kuusamo. On this page we present the route of the Karhunkierros Trail in the Oulanka National Park area from Hautaj\u00e4rvi to Myllykoski, in a north-south direction. The Karhunkierros Visitor Centre and the Arctic Circle Caf\u00e9 are open daily from 9am to 5pm. The car transfer service can be booked via <a href=\"https:\/\/oulangantaika.fi\/en\/product\/car-transfer-service-on-karhunkierros-hiking-trail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oulangan Taika<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By bus from Kuusamo Airport and Ruka:<\/strong> Karhunkierros Express operates the route Airport-Ruka-K\u00e4yl\u00e4-Hautaj\u00e4rvi-Sallatunturi after each scheduled Finnair flight arriving in Kuusamo, from 24 May to 30 September. The section is easy to navigate. More information about the canoeing routes on the River Oulankajoki, which flows through the national park, is available via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luontoon.fi\/oulanka\/melontarehttps:\/\/www.nationalparks.fi\/oulankanp\/trails\/canoeingroutesitit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this link. <\/a>The route which stretches from the visitor centre to J\u00e4k\u00e4l\u00e4mutka by the eastern border has been called the most enchanting canoeing route in all of Europe. The route continues as an easy forest section towards the Kitkanniemi area, followed by a demanding descent from P\u00e4hk\u00e4n\u00e4kallio, down a steep slope. Here the route connects to the Little Karhunkierros Trail. You can end your hike at Basecamp or start it here towards the Arctic Circle. Basecamp Oulanka is located right next to the wildest part of the Kitkajoki river and offers rafting departures on weekdays Mon-Sat, throughout the summer. The trip which lasts approximately three hours includes transport to K\u00e4yl\u00e4, from where we start paddling along the Kitkajoki river towards Juuma, ending at the Basecamp beach.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The wild rapids from Basecamp to Jyr\u00e4v\u00e4:<\/strong> Our most popular route starts from Basecamp, from where we head to Myllykoski and Aallokkokoski \u2013 the largest safely navigable rapids in Kitkajoki, via Niskakoski and Jyr\u00e4v\u00e4 lake. This two-hour excursion will guarantee adrenaline rushes and requires teamwork! The tour ends at the edge of the Jyr\u00e4v\u00e4 waterfall, from where we return to Basecamp by foot, along the Little Karhunkierros Trail.
